The Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, DC, home to the world’s largest Shakespeare collection, presented the 2008 Shakespeare Steward Award to Trinity graduate Dr. Peggy Hoffman O’Brien '69. O'Brien recently completed her term as chair of the Trinity Board of Trustees (2002 - 2008) and served as president of the Trinity Alumnae Association (1998 - 2001). O’Brien is the founder of the Folger’s Teaching Shakespeare Institute and initiated the groundbreaking education series, Shakespeare Set Free. She is currently director of communications for District of Columbia Public Schools. Full Article
Thursday, July 24, 2008 Lynn Johnson, associate dean of Trinity's School of Education, presented testimony on behalf of Dean Suellen Meara on July 23, 2008, regarding proposed regulations governing teacher certification in the District of Columbia. The testimony was presented before Superintendent Deborah Gist and the the District of Columbia State Board of Education. Full Article
Trinity President Patricia McGuire was interviewed about leadership issues on a program called “The Leaders Spot with Rebecca Blacksmith" on Wednesday, July 23, 2008, on WDMV Radio, 700 AM. In the interview, broadcast as she begins her 20th year as president, she discusses important lessons for leaders and talks about the Trinty Center for Women and Girls in Sports, plans for the new Trinity Academic Center and other topics. The Trinity community mourns the passing of Sr. Joan Bland, SND, '38, who died on Sunday, June 29 at the age of 90. A graduate of Trinity's green class of 1938, Sr. Joan entered the Sisters of Notre Dame at Ilchester that same year.
Trinity alumnae, EPS students and graduates, and all members of the Trinity community are invited to remember Sister Joan at her memorial Mass on Sunday, August 3, at 3:30 p.m. in Notre Dame Chapel. Full Article
Thursday, June 26, 2008 Trinity will host the District of Columbia Hispanic Youth Symposium, an inspiring program to help develop and grow the next generation of Hispanic professionals and guide 200 promising high school students on a path to achieving college degrees and careers. Jonetta Rose Barras stressed to the graduates the importance of “protecting and developing your personal humanity; nurturing your own and others’ dignity; and creating an intimate society in an era of superficial communications. Tuesday, May 13, 2008 Fifteen Trinity students enrolled in the School of Professional Studies were inducted into Alpha Sigma Lambda, the national honor society for adult students, at a ceremony on May 12, 2008. Chantal Touzet-Bush '07, who was inducted into Alpha Sigma Lambda last year, gave the keynote remarks; she reflected on the juggling act of working and earning a college degree as an adult learner. Natalie Stephenson, a student in Trinity's School of Education and a language arts teacher at Kenmoor Middle School in Landover, Maryland, has been selected to receive The Washington Post’s 2008 Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award for Prince George’s County. The Agnes Meyer Award is presented annually to one teacher from each Washington metropolitan area school district. Full Article
