Associate Provost for Educational Technologies
Trinity Washington University seeks applications for the position of Associate Provost for Educational Technologies to include oversight of its Trinity Online business unit, the University’s 100% online academic unit which will start offering classes in the Fall of 2010. Trinity Online will provide affordable excellence in higher education at a distance and foster the intellectual and personal development of a diverse student population who want the flexibility and accessibility of an online program. With projected enrollment of over 500 by the Fall of 2011, distance learning is a key part of Trinity’s 2010 Strategic Plan to deliver web-enhanced instruction that will enhance student learning and improve student success. Further, Trinity Online, like other current University initiatives, leverages extant technologies and will foster dynamic growth in encouraging new models for teaching and learning.
The Associate Provost for Educational Technologies also bears responsibility for developing programming and initiatives to encourage widespread adoption of current and appropriate technologies across Trinity’s four collegiate units. The Associate Provost must, in reporting to the Provost, balance budget and staff resources to achieve financial and enrollment targets.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS:
Program Realization Achieve the Fall 2010 launch of Trinity Online in accordance with the Business Plan. In concert with other offices, responsible for successful implementation of Trinity Online’s Academic, Operations and Marketing plan per the project timeline.
Program Development Working with the deans of the collegiate units in which the online programs originate, maintains and enhances the academic quality, professional relevance, and clear distinctiveness of the online programs. Assures that the University’s mission, culture, and strategic plan is reflected through Trinity Online, and that academic policies and standards are implemented and maintained.
Program Administration Oversees professional staff and conducts periodic performance appraisals. Through the professional staff exercise leadership and direction in coordinating registration services and off campus general office management concerns. Develops and monitors annual budgets; monitors program performance; oversees daily operations and maintenance of appropriate Program records.
Academic Management In conjunction with the deans of the collegiate units for the relevant online programs, exercises leadership and direction regarding the recruitment, assessment, evaluation, scheduling, contracting, and development of the Program faculty. .
Instructional Design Manages work of staff members and contractors in the design, development and maintenance of training courses and curriculum to support business needs. Application of adult learning theory and instructional design methodology in the design and development of training programs. Development and application of measurement tools to gauge the effectiveness and direct impact of training on performance improvement. Teaming with site training and functional managers to increase line management involvement in ownership and sustainment of training programs.
Enrollment Management Working with Enrollment Development, provides appropriate leadership and direction in the recruitment of new students to achieve enrollment targets. Provides supervision and guidance in the preparation of an annual marketing plan and the design and production of appropriate advertising and promotional materials. Regularly participates in community relations and corporate outreach initiatives.
Student Services Working with extant offices, develops and implements program services rendered in the area of admissions and advising. Provides supervision and guidance with regard to the assurance of maintaining University policies and standards.
Internal and External Relations Oversees internal affairs regarding the maintenance and development of the Program. Assures positive working relationships through regular meetings with the institution’s central operations Serves as an external representative for the University. Conducts outreach efforts in the government, military, educational and corporate sectors; establishes and maintains a contact network that enhances the University’s visibility and professional image; works closely with the local community college system in negotiating articulation agreements and ongoing staff development for student advising in seamless transfer agreements. Serves on appropriate University committees and the larger educational or corporate community as requested or as program enhancement may dictate.
In working closely with the Provost and the academic Deans, develops and implements comprehensive assessments of ways that technologies currently inform pedagogies and develops new models for teaching and learning directly infused by such technologies.
Working directly with Information Technology Services, the Provost, and the academic Deans, makes recommendations about acquisitions of particular technologies relevant to Trinity’s strategic plan as well as planning at the collegiate and program level.
Continuing oversight of Trinity’s use of the Moodle learning management system, including recommending additional modules or uses as appropriate and as designed to facilitate achieving Trinity’s strategic goals.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Understanding of the characteristics of the adult learner and non-traditional, accelerated, online, adult educational programs in a customer service environment. Proven experience in these areas preferred.
Entrepreneurial skills with an image and marketing orientation. Proven record of accomplishment in program start-up and development is preferred.
Capacity for leadership, initiative, and timely follow-through with a minimum of direct supervision in a competitive marketplace. Demonstrated ability to manage people and educational processes.
Understanding of the unique characteristics of the local and regional market.
A working knowledge of and experience in fiscal/budgetary management.
Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
Commitment to the University’s mission and corporate behavior.
Minimum of Master’s Degree, preferably in Instructional Technology
In-depth knowledge and experience with curriculum design and programmatic assessment
Experience in teaching in both traditional and online venues is preferred
Experience with Moodle learning management system preferred
